Studio BAD have submitted planning for the development of Coxford Road, the project looks to redevelop an existing brownfield site, to deliver much needed city center housing for Southampton. The design aims high, offering quality accommodation fit for 21st century living.
The whole development, once completed, will deliver 15 units (comprising of 8 two bedroom and 7 one bedroom apartments) with a central courtyard space for all residence to enjoy, set to the south to take advantage of the solar gain of the site.
The layouts are well considered and spacious; with the majority offered dual aspect and private balconies, these are conceived as an extension to the living space which allow the balcony space to be used throughout the year.
The form of the apartments comprises of two blocks, the architecture has taken cues from the local vernacular with red brick and a traditional slate roof incorporated, but to be read as a contemporary addition with timber cladding and sedum roof to add texture and a modern touch.
The site sits within the Maybush district, sitting to the west of the city center, just to the south of Southampton General Hospital. Currently the site contains a redundant public house, having been closed for over 10 years the site is a magnet for anti-social behavior.
