CREATING SENSITIVE HOUSING DEVELOPMENTS

Studio BAD are working in collaboration with a local, independent developer on a series of masterplan projects across Hampshire and Sussex. The client developer has a number of parcels of land that they are looking to redevelop, to create interesting high quality housing developments that are carefully designed to enhance their community and sit comfortably into their sensitive settings.

In Alfriston we are working on a masterplan that looks to redevelop a former allotment site set in the pretty village, located within the South Downs National Park. Through careful design consideration the scheme will deliver five new three and one bedroom homes, offering a mix of detached and terrace houses in a landscape-led masterplan approach. The design introduces a mix of materials to reflect the local vernacular whilst also successfully breaking down the mass of the new structure. The materials, such as perforated brick, timber cladding, flint, clay tiles and corten metal, enhance the development by adding a beautiful character and texture to the scheme to add individuality and character to the scheme so the contemporary design has a nod to the heritage of the area.

In the village of Plaistow in West Sussex, we are working on a scheme that is set on a sensitive site within the settlement boundary of Chichester allocated for housing, adjacent to a conservation area. The development looks to offers fifteen new high-quality dwellings, carefully positioned around a central green amenity space which will enhance the biodiversity of the development and help to organically blend the new scheme into the historic settlement. As part of the design stage, we are set to undertake a series of community engagement projects; by listen to local voices we can create a richer design for all.
