EXTENDING FOR MODERN LIVING

Crag House is a pretty stone cottage near Ripon, surrounded by the beautiful rolling north Yorkshire landscape. The owners approached Studio BAD to undertake a feasibility study to investigate the potential of extending the small dwelling, with an aim of creating a social kitchen and a ground floor master bedroom suite.

Several design potentials for extending the dwelling were investigated, looking to meet the brief with minimal structural changes. The designs looked to engage with an existing barn at the rear of the property, to renovate the space for a luxury ground floor master bedroom with dressing room. A single storey, contemporary side extension adds the space needed to deliver a bright, open plan kitchen with space to entertain in and glazed doors opening directly onto a small courtyard garden.

High quality materials have been carefully chosen to highlight the distinction between the old and new, with contemporary architectural language to celebrate the modern addition to the pretty cottage.
