MAXIMISING THE OPPORTUNITIES

Studio BAD have completed a deep renovation of a 1960’s bungalow in Brixham, South Devon. The project has reconfigured the original property, transforming the tired dwelling to deliver a beautiful, contemporary home that fully engages with its elevated site above the harbour.

The design brief centred on reimaging the existing property, including a sustainable upgrade, creating a home perfectly suited the owner’s lifestyle while offering flexibility for extended family visit. Replacing the old glazing with large-scale, slim frame windows has increased the natural light throughout the interior and enhanced the connection to the spectacular coastal views.

The roof terrace has been extended and improved, now connecting seamlessly from the living room. A new glass balustrade eliminates visual barriers, allowing uninterrupted views to be enjoyed from within the home.

Exterior materials were carefully selected for their durability in the harsh coastal climate, as well for their visual quality. These finishes reference local materials, adding a sense of place while elevating the overall design.
